David could have taken Saul's life in the cave and despite his soldiers encouraging him to kill, David refuses for Saul is God's anointed king over the nation. David seeks to slay Saul's hatred instead. After Saul leaves the cave David calls out to him and from David's words we learn tact and diplomacy and he reflects his gracious God in his words. In this passage we see David reflect the forthcoming Saviour. Practical lessons for our attention come throughout this study sermon.
