Called together by Samuel the tribes of Israel gather at Mizpeh to receive the earthly king that they have wanted so much. God through Samuel tells the people they have sinned. They are rejecting God's kingship by asking for an earthly king like the nations round about them. Saul by selection becomes king. God through Samuel shows Saul the means of governing this new kingdom. Saul's kingship divides the people and we see Saul at his best in this circumstance
