Providence is carrying David toward the throne of Israel. For the moment David is in full-time employment of Saul the present king and has the roll of servant to the king, and so submits to his authority. There is a practical lesson here for you and I. In our verses we also see the popularity of David with the people and the other servants of Saul and from this popularity lessons are to be. There are lessons here also about the place and roll of women in worship and the fickleness of human nature.
