Following the battle Saul tastes defeat commits suicide rather than be a prisoner. A young Amalekite comes and tells David of the defeat and of Saul's death. This young man adorns his part and we learn how his view of Saul clashes with that of David. A lesson also found in the text is that bitter and sweet experiences mix in the lives of believers.
